My Winter Break

Hello again everyone!  Just recently, we had our winter break (for me it just ended, but for everyone else it was a week ago...)!  Some people hate the holidays for many reasons. They don't like shoveling snow the whole time, are forced to entertain people they don't know or younger/older family, didn't get the gifts they wanted, didn't go on any trips anywhere (I mean of course the ones where you go somewhere by plane), maybe were tripped once too often (now I mean the one where you fall flat on your face), or just didn't enjoy their holidays.  But some other people did enjoy their holidays (I can be counted here!).  Now I don't mean to brag, but my holiday was tons of fun, and here's how it went:

For Christmas, I wanted to make my family a little amigurumi stocking stuffer.  Something small and cute, and something all at the same time that they would enjoy.  I had been planning on making these for a little while, but I couldn't decide.  So about a week before Christmas Eve, I finally thought of something for each of them.  Now at first because it was a week before Christmas Eve, I panicked and thought I wouldn't be able to finish them, but I thought that I had to try; My family deserved it.  So I gathered all my materials, and for the next week, I locked myself in my room and crocheted on my bed.  I didn't let anyone in, I didn't take breaks (not counting meals and family meetings), I didn't do anything but crochet, and it was fun!  Then Christmas Eve I had finally added the finishing touches to my moms gift right after dinner. My sister loved her amigurumi Minecraft Creeper*, and my parents loved their amigurumi Deadmau5* and Mickey Mouse* (email me for pictures at my RTMS email). I personally think they went well!  My Christmas morning went very well for my family and I!

The next week, my family and I spent our time planning and packing for our trip! We were going to Hong Kong on New Years to visit family!  We didn't go to sleep at all the night before New Years to prepare for the change in time zone, and then drove to the airport for a 9am flight. The flight lasted a total of about 15 hours which wasn't
much fun for anyone.  Nearing the end of the flight, the cabin crew came around with everyone's breakfast which was your choice of either eggs or congee (for those who don't know; congee is a traditional Chinese meal, similar to a porridge but made with rice.  It is usually eaten with meat or fish inside and can be eaten for any meal. The picture to the right is an example of beef congee.) and I LOVE congee, so of course that's what I asked for.  When I got my congee, I was pretty sure it wasn't congee.  First of all, it had mushrooms on it.  Mushrooms DO NOT belong on congee, and even if they did, I don't like them.  Second of all, the texture was very odd...  I explained to my father, that I was pretty sure it wasn't congee, but insisted that it was.  So I scooped the mushrooms off and took a spoonful.  The texture didn't just look wrong, it felt wrong too!  For a meal made with rice, this tasted more like potatoes, which are not my favourite.  I told my dad this and he told me not to waste it, so I kept eating...  When the plane landed my stomach started to hurt, and my head had been hurting the entire flight.  When we met my cousins and 6 year old uncle (long story...) outside I wasn't feeling any better.  This was not the greatest moment of my life nor my trip, and what happened next let everyone know I had eaten something I shouldn't have, since I rarely get sick.  Moving right along...

My cousins had so much stuff planned and we did it all. Lots of dinners with family, and at the end of it all, we began our flight back.  It was a connected flight, so we stopped in Vancouver after a 10 hour flight and slept at my aunts place. Then when we got up, we went for Brunch (Breakfast and Lunch combined for those who don't know) and learned our flight had been delayed an hour, so we hung out for a while.  About an hour later we hopped up on our plane and were off back here in no time (3 1/2 hours actually...).  We're still adjusting a little, but we're all fine! My Winter Break was lots of fun at most times, but I'm still excited to see everyone again! Part of me can't wait to get back to school! See you later!
